We bring local financing to Maine’s small farms and food producers

We’re Banking on Local Food.

Maine Harvest Federal Credit Union is the only fully-regulated financial institution focused on growing a healthy, local food system through government-guaranteed deposits. Our mission is to provide financing for Maine’s small farms and food producers with deposits from people and institutions that share our values. As a specialized credit union, we offer only business loans, regular share savings accounts, and regular CDs. We’re here to complement, not replace your day-to-day banking relationship, so if you are looking for day-to-day banking options like checking accounts and consumer loans, we’d love to refer you to another member of the Maine credit union family.

Deposit Accounts & Rates

When you open a Savings or CD account with Maine Harvest, your Federally-insured deposits will fund much-needed loans to Maine farmers and food producers.

Loans

If you’re a small farmer or food producer, you know how hard it can be to access business-building capital. Maine Harvest FCU is on a mission to change that.

How it works

Become a Member
Like all credit unions, Maine Harvest FCU is a financial cooperative governed by its members. To open an account or get a loan with us, you must first be a member of one of the two organizations we were founded to serve, the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) or Maine Farmland Trust. But don’t worry – joining is easy! To learn how (or just learn more), visit their membership pages below. Already a member of MOFGA or MFT? You can open a deposit account as soon as we’re open!

Founded in 1971, MOFGA is the oldest and largest state organic organization in the country. MOFGA offers programs for organic certification, farmer and gardener training and education, and is the organization behind the annual Common Ground Fair, which brings 65,000 individuals to Unity, Maine each year on the third weekend after Labor Day.

Founded in 1999, Maine Farmland Trust is the state’s first and only land trust focused on protecting farmland and helping farmers thrive. MFT’s programs support farmers by helping them protect and get on the land, grow strong businesses, and by advocating for the important roles farms play in Maine’s communities.

LET’S GROW SOMETHING GOOD.

Start with a Savings Account

Every Maine Harvest FCU membership (lending or deposit) begins by opening a savings account with us. And when you open that account, you’ll be doing more than saving money for your future — you’ll be chipping in to help Maine’s small farmers and food producers build better futures for themselves and a stronger local food economy for our state.
